  • Optimizing application performance – included compression and cache functionality, balancing traffic to less-loaded application servers, and the ability to terminate and speed up SSL traffic on the application delivery control applications itself.
  • High reliability of the application – applications delivery control devices continually monitor the availability of your application servers, and if they detect the failure of one of the servers, automatically redirect traffic to the remaining active servers.

About the service

Databases are the basic building block of all transactional systems (ERP, POS and others), and their availability and adequate performance are of critical importance for the operation of such systems and the business of the company in general. In the COMING cloud infrastructure, it is possible to hire and use high performance databases and availability at a reasonable price. The core products are Microsoft SQL Server (all editions, from free Express to Enterprise), as well as freely available MySQL and PostgresSQL. For new web applications, they are available on request and the leading NonSQL database.

Functionality

The database as a service has several of its variants:

 

  • primary database and data backup (full and log backup) in the cloud,
  • cloud replica database (with high availability sub-viruses, for example: Microsoft SQL Server Availability Group),
  • replica of important tables.

 

This service can also be a component of more complex services, such as SAP ERP in the cloud (or its recovery as a service) or MS Dynamics NAV / CRM. Regardless of the fact that in the case of these services, the database itself remains less visible to the user, the same level of availability, security and performance as well as independent database services is ensured.

Economics

The efficiency of the service is reflected in the ability of multiple users to share the same instance of database servers in a completely secure way, and thus distribute the costs of licenses and monitoring / administration to several of them. Also, this service inherits all the good features of virtual cloud infrastructure both in terms of features and in terms of economy. For example, cloud recovery services (and complex applications) in the cloud are at least 3-4 times cheaper than in their own performance.

Which operating systems are available in COMING cloud?

You can use Linux and Windows operating systems on the COMING cloud infrastructure. It is possible to use any version of the operating system for which the manufacturer provides support.

For what purpose is this service used?

The largest number of users of this service implement, test and use their own applications on the COMING cloud platform. The service is a frequent choice of software engineering companies, and they need a reliable and secure platform through which software delivery can be delivered as an end-user service. Often COMING platform is used as a platform for the database.

On which network layer is it possible to distribute traffic to application servers?

Distribution of traffic to application servers can be done on layer 4 network (by TCP / UDP port) or layer 7 network (application layer, eg at HTTP / HTTPS protocol level).

What is the minimum number of application servers?

The minimum number of application servers is 1, with the service providing only a security feature, but it is recommended to use at least 2 application servers in order to be able to use both automatic load balancing functionality and high availability.

How to monitor the availability of application servers?

The availability of application servers can be monitored in a variety of ways, from simple checking of network access via ping, by checking the possibility of establishing a TCP connection, to checking the level of accessibility at the application level using HTTP / S GET query.

Can you guarantee the performance and availability of databases in the COMING cloud infrastructure?

The user agreement prescribes all basic service quality elements (“SLA”): security (isolation from other users and protection against unauthorized access), performance (for example: SAPS number for SAP services, response time for a certain number of users (for known standard queries / transactions), availability in percent (standard: 99.95%), as well as RPO / RTO parameters for recovery in case of cancellation. The user is additionally protected by penalties that Coming must pay in case they do not satisfy SLA.

What are the options for protecting / recovering data?

Depending on the level of protection chosen by the user, it may have a cloud backup database (mandatory!), A remote copy (in another cloud location), and / or even your own copy from the cloud at its location. In doing so, the privacy of users and data is guaranteed. On request, it is possible to cryptographically protect the data (and the whole database). The user is guaranteed full inviolability of the content and ownership of the data.

Is it possible to check copies of backup data?

Checking the quality of the service and backup and the copy of the data itself can be performed at any time at the request of the user or an authorized auditor. If the database is part of a more complex recovery service for user services in the event of a disaster, then a regular recovery test (with documentation) is provided.

Is it possible to significantly improve the performance of the database in the cloud?

The Coming Cloud infrastructure contains a number of components that are in function of improving and guaranteeing the appropriate (user-agreed) performance. One of these features is a Flash-based data storage system that, at a reasonable cost, provides multiple performance improvements (10X or more). Another service enables cloud-based support (specialized engineers) to optimize the performance of applications and / or databases.

How is this service different from other cloud suppliers?

The basic difference is in detailed, 24 hour monitoring and support by qualified engineers who, of course, rely on automatic cloud infrastructure operations, and are engaged whenever improvements are needed, find and remove bottlenecks, perform service recovery, and what most importantly, allow the user to work reliably, migrate their own solutions to Coming Cloud or from it to another location.
